Omg I love this place. Awesome liver soup, great variety of schnitzel. Chris is a fantastic server too. No wonder this place has been in business so long- keep up the good work

Amazing food with great portions but the inside of the restaurant is small. The service is great and you do get a wonderful soup with each meal!

My food tasted fine (the cabbage soup in particular was quite good), but I regret to report that my meal made me VERY sick. I started feeling a little funky even before we left the restaurant, and by the time I got home was in full-blown misery. I suspect I'm in for a really rough night. The food is good, but no way is it worth this aftermath!

There was zero service to the point we got up and walked away. We walked in, were greeted by the owner and sat, we never got menus or even waters. There were at least 4 more tables that had no food on them and didn't look very happy either (long face not talking to each other). After about 15 minutes, we decided to leave. The owner and the one waiter seemed nice but WAY too understaffed for the amount of people there... And half the restaurant was empty but "reserved", they had us sit outside even tho was raining like crazy. Sadly a poor experience, the food seemed good. Another thing I didn't like was, as we walked in the restaurant, EVERYONE sized us up and down, since we don't fit their stereotypes. We were dressed normal for Florida and are professional and eloquent enough to not get that kind off treatment. I'm telling you, there are many more places you can get beer and fried steak (pork or steak)

A great find and authentic delicious food. Their summer specials are a great value. My wife and I had two different Schnitzels and both were fantastic. We never order desert but the home made strudel with vanilla ice cream was impossible to resist. We live in Bonita Springs and were invited by some Fort Myer friends. We will be back as it is truly worth the trip. SK

Great spot, incredible food, great service and a great chef/owner. I would recommend this place to anyone. Real authentic and hide portions. Feels like going over to a relatives house for an incredible home cooked meal. Anytime in in ft myers I'll be visiting this restaurant

This is a small spot that is hard to find in a small mall. Must have reservations to be seated inside. We had a nice table outside with attentive service. Food was very good and the Chef adhered to authentic recipes. The liver dumpling soup was excellant. The sauerbraten with red kraut was very good. The only negative was the party at the next table brought their two large dogs. They did not appear to be service dogs.

Well, if you want to eat there make sure you arrive 90 minutes before the posted CLOSED sign. We arrived at 8 PM for dinner and we're told that the kitchen had closed. THE SIGN STATED THEY WERE OPEN UNTIL 9:30! However on our way out they did offer us a MENU????? Not sure why!

Yep, I love this place. Met some friends here for dinner. It was their first time, and they swore they needed geo caching expertise to find the outdoor tables where I waited for them. Once they navigated to the restaurant, we sat dry & cozy under an ample awning while it poured rain over the pitifully empty plaza. The bubbly fountain kept at it even during the deluge. There's German beer on tap that's served by the litre and half litre. We got with the geographic program and had Riesling along with meats and spaetzle and gorgeous sauces. Even the non-sweet eater with us nudged a fork into the warm apple streusel. i asked (as usual) for a side of pumpkin seed oil to garnish my salad. That warranted the Chef to abandon his post to find out who was looking for a ubiquitous bit of Austria over her greens. He assured me that his kitchen could provide anything from Styria, that rolling countryside of vineyards and complex history that's inhabited by some of the most friendly people on the planet.

A small restaurant with great food! There have a whole page dedicated to schnitzel. As temping as the schnitzel page was, I decided to order the sauerbraten ( so good!) and my husband ordered the butcher's block which was a tasting of everything (really good!) Everything is homemade and when you walk in you don't feel like you're in Fort Myers.

This place has a horrible location in the middle of Mall. At night you might need a gps walking from the parking lot. (Come in through Catch 22. It is a good thing the food and service are unbelievable. They have the best Potato Pancakes. They are large freshly made and crispy. They beg to be eaten instantly. If you love Red cabbage, sour kraut and spatzel this is place. I loved both soups. Of course they have Studel.

I honestly do not care if the food was good, amazing, or fantastic, waiting an hour and a half to get your dinner is ridiculous. With only one cook in the kitchen they should not have seating for so many. If they kept the restaurant smaller, the outcome would be much better. I have heard from others the same complaint so I know it is not an isolated incident. Our food was pretty good, but nothing is worth a wait that long. I doubtI will be back and that is a shame, I love to support local.

Best German food I've ever had!!! The wiener Schnitzel (Veal) was tender and had great flavor. I got it with a side of the Black Forest Schnitzel sauce and spread it on my veal, it was amazing. I can't believe how tender and juicy the cuts were. My Gf got a potato pancake and it was amazing. 5 stars across the board. Great service and fast food as well! Large portions also. Great experience. Would recommend this to anyone.

An authentic Austrian Menu with a great price point. Right from the appetizer, Grilled Feta Wrapped in Prosciutto to the main course of various Schnitzels everything was excellent. The home made desserts were the icing on the cake! Helmet and Helga and the waiter staff were incredible hosts. We have eaten here two nights in a row and were impressed on both occasions. A little hard to get to but very much worth the effort.

For the first time trying German food we are thoroughly pleased with the experience! The portions were very hearty and the food tastes amazing and has the home cooked flavor. The staff is amazingly friendly. The chef mingled with the guests. He even offered me a bite of his food! Definitely coming back here!

We are originally from Austria and so I think we are a pretty good resource for review :) We have been going to this place for almost 2 years now and we still love this place! Every single dish tastes like out of our Grandma's kitchen. Although we miss our family in Austria a lot, it's like coming home. The service is super friendly, some of them even speak German. Try the Schnitzel and do not miss the Kaiserschmarrn!

BEST GERMAN RESTAURANT IN THE COUNTY By far. And it's Austrian, too. We went in for their Summer special: two complete dinners and a bottle of wine for $29. Can't beat that! And the meal was huge and fantastic. Bread comes with the meal, as does soup or salad. We both opted for the salad with their home-made dressing and found it to be just right. Served at room temperature as it should be. For dinner, we had Chicken Schnitzel with red cabbage and spätzle and the Pork Schnitzel with potato salad. Both schnitzels were HUGE - 2 pieces that almost covered the entire plate and very tasty. The red cabbage, spätzle, and potato salad were all delicious also, and clearly home made. The potato salad was the German type but not as vinegary as it usually is, and thus it was really good. We each needed a box to take home some of the meal, as well as the remains of the bottle of wine. It was a California cabernet, and not bad at all. This place can be difficult to find, but it is well worth the effort.

Our visit last night was not an exceptionally good experience. The two schnitzels we ordered seemed to have been cooked from frozen - not fresh, and the waiter forgot to serve our soup. This did not measure up to other German/Bavarian restaurants we have visited in Fort Myers. Will not go there again.

Food was very good. Service was extremely slow. My wife and I waited over an hour for our food. That is just not acceptable. The location is hard to find and is in a half closed mall area. We will not return.

We've been coming to Ft. M for 6 years and somehow missed this place. Outstanding! It puts the German restaurants in Milwaukee to shame. The space is small and Helga is cooking away in the open kitchen right past the dining room. I had the breaded pork which melted in my mouth. Others had the goulash which was some of the best I've ever tasted. And great beer and wine selection. This is a small operation, so I expect that service is often a bit slow, but it is very much worth the wait.

Great place, super friendly staff. The service can be a little slow, but that's made up for with quality. The wienerschnitzel is just fall-off-your-chair amazing (I get the Black Forest variant every time.) The only downside is that service can get hectic when there's a crowd (and there normally is.) Its also pretty cramped in the interior dining area. If I knew Christoph Waltz in real life (and I do not,) I would proudly recommend this place to him.

Fantastic all home made and fresh as you order. So glad we stopped in all the reviews are true. Delicious!! Try it you will be hooked!

Our reservation got us a table for 2 right up against a noisy table for 4. The restaurant was full, so our request for a change of table was not possible. The food: german potato salad was bland and the red cabbage was over spiced with cinnamon. The schnitzel was ok, nothing special. People seem to love this place.....very noisy and uncomfortably crowded.

The first time I went to German Austrian Restaurant my wife's boss had invited us out to dinner. This would be the same dinner where my wife's boss said he, "collected people like (me)," which is what I imagine serial killers say before killing and eating someone. No one wore my skin as a mask, and the company was nice enough, but the food at German Austrian Restaurant was the best part of the night. Several authentic German beers are available and will complement any meal on the menu. We started with an appetizer of steak tartar and some liver dumpling soup. Both were fantastic. The tartar was completely gone within minutes. The soup I could have eaten as my entrée. More beers were consumed and the main course was served. My wife had the chicken cordon bleu. It might have been called something different but it was essentially chicken cordon bleu. She loved it. I had a taste and I loved it. I had the schnitzel and it was easily the best I ever had. After our meal the owner came out and talked to us. He is one of these guys who seem to be larger than life with hands the size of oven mitts. He told us how everything on the menu is made from scratch. He left our table briefly and returned with shots of some (mighty tasty) alcohol he would only call "juice". Great food and a great atmosphere. My wife and I have returned a few times and have never been let down. Their German food and music festival was a hoot. I'll be bringing all my out of town friends here for more good times.

Visited here in October 2012. Overall, the restaurant meal was evidently good. The others in my party enjoyed their meals. Me, not at all - and I had to pay for it! Here's what you need to know: If the server or kitchen makes an error with your order, there are absolutely no returns or changes made. I asked the server about the ingredients in one of the schnitzel dishes and if one of the ingredients could be omitted. He assured me that leaving out the ingredient would not be a problem at all and noted it when he wrote it down. Our dishes arrive and within one or two bites, I notice the ingredient was indeed in the schnitzel. I politely noted this to the server who immediately got a look of terror in his face! I then asked if it would be possible to re-do the dish. He adamantly said, "No. Sorry. She (Helga) will absolutely not take dishes back." End of discussion and he walks away. I sit there stunned. I shouldn't have been because I then learned that this rigid refusal to please a customer may happen with some frequency at this restaurant. Someone in our dining party said they weren't surprised because on a previous visit, Helga make a big scene (shouting and banging stuff in the kitchen) which embarassed a customer at another table because they sent back their meal due to a mix-up in the side dish. Now I know why the server had an immediate look of terror in his face - evidently the chef is all smiles until someone has the audacity to ask for the correction of a mistake. No tolerance whatsoever for the customer in this equation. This kitchen is never wrong! So. There I sat with an expensive dish in front of me which went uneaten. Had I known that THEIR mistake would be costing ME, I would have ordered something else in the first place. When the staff assures you that a minor ingredient omission is "no problem" and you get it anyway, and are then expected to eat it as-is and pay for it, that is a big zero in my book. The only reason I didn't give this place a zero is because the others in the party enjoyed their meals. I will say the deserts are absolutely delicious. The only problem is since I never had a meal to begin with, anything would have tasted good at that point! When you consider that the average worker in this town probably had to work for two to three hours to be able to afford one of these meals, that is a real shame. Imagine this being a special night out, and get treated this way! This is definitely not a place for families, kids or anyone who may need an adjustment on an ingredient or has any kind of food allergy. Be forewarned - you will NOT be accommodated! I thought it was important for potential diners to understand this so that you are not surprised. Evidently Helga dishes it up only one way - her way. If you don't like it, tough. But you will pay for it before they let the door hit you on the way out!

We do not recommend this restaurant. The food was terrible and the service was just as bad. We complained to the woman owner and she seemed indifferent.

Being from New England, I don't get much chance at German cuisine, so I thought I'd try this place.I had the viener schnitzel and it was excellent. Great flavor, tender and the coating was wonderful. The location is not good, inside a small mall, but it is open-air so outdoor seating is available. My waiter was very good. The selection of beers was more limited than I expected. My red cabbage side was very good, and I am fussy about this dish. The ambience is muted, a little cluttered and worn. But I went for the food and was not disappointed . I will definitely go back with SWMBO.

Love the German-Austrian mini-mall experience! The schnitzel was seriously for schnitzel my nitzel, and that means good. The salads, the wine, everything was flippin' great. Try to go on a night when Jack is working. Jack tells it like it is. "Why is the strudel cold tonight, Jack?" "The microwave isn't working. What do you want from me." Don't mess with the man who brought SARS to the US.

This is perhaps the best kept secret in Fort Myers. The owners have another successful restaurant in Austria which is now managed by their children. The husband seems to be more of a the matre'd while his wife prepares almost all the meals and nothing gets out of the kitchen without her approval. If you are counting calories, perhaps not the best choice but if you need to go out on an amazing good binge, this is by far worth every calorie. Enjoy it.

Excellent Austro-German restaurant. I was on a long drive in SW Florida and called them to check the summer hours. It answered by voice mail and I did not leave a message. To my surpise, the owner called back later in the day when I was driving. It was a good sign. I got to Fort Myers late and decided to try the restaurant. They were pretty full for a Monday night but I got a high seat right next to the open kitchen. They have an extensive list of schnitzels, any kind you may want. I ordered the traditional wiener schnitzel which is unadorned. It came with pan fried potatoes and a salad, and mustn't forget the wedge of lemon. The schnitzel was very good, thin pounded veal in a light batter, very hot. The light coat of batter is almost like a skin, nice. My host stopped by the table and suggested their special Hungarian soup. He gave me a cup. It is delicious, a thick soup with rich paprika color and spicy taste, with chopped cabbage and bits of meat, pork? Reminds me of Hungarian goulash but with different ingredients. Excellent. Of course they have apple strudel for dessert but they recommended the peach and that too was good. The crust is thin, with texture, the peach slices in between. I usually order dark beer in a German restaurant and the Bischoff was fine, it doesn't have the slight bitter taste and goes well with the mild veal. Next time my fussy Vienna friend visits, I'll bring him. Of course he may drive the restaurant crazy...): In all this is a fine restaurant to add to my list.

The food here is very good. The wiener schnitzel and the stuffed cabbage were my favorites. If you have never had this kind of food I would recommend going when they have an all you can eat night. That way you can try everything. Difficult to find though! Its in a mall that we drove by twice, but worth the challenge! Please open one of these in Boston!

A little difficult to find as it is located near the rear of a shopping plaza and it can not be seen from Colonial Blvd. The three of us ordered different types of schnitzel. All were excellent and it is evident that they are cooked to order. All including the sides were delivered to the table nice and hot. The one downside to our meal was the service. Our waiter was less than attentive and once the meal was served never returned to the table unless flagged down. In addition we ordered the strudel for desert and it was never delivered. Waiters comment was "I thought Helga (the owner?) had brought it. Comment made no sense since we placed the order with him and he passed our table numerous times. We finally just paid the check and left. Because of food quality we will try again but they need additional wait staff.

My favorite restaurant in all of Fort Myers! Incredible food that is totally authentic and homemade! Love the courtyard feel in the plaza, and it is nice to take a romantic walk around after dinner. I just wish it was a bigger restaurant as I have been turned away a few times because they were too busy! Try their streudel too!!!!!

Small restaurant with outdoor beer garden. Great service and large portions. All meals come with the daily soup. Today was a duck barley soup which was interesting. They also had a liver soup. The salad included potato salad. Unfortunately ran out of the homemade bread. There was a big party at lunch. The owner is Austrian-German and makes authentic meals. He was off today. The wienerscnitzel i got had black forest ham, swiss cheese and mushroom sauce. It comes with potatoes. It was excellent. Had been open 7 years. The owner has a simar restaurant in Austria that has been open 34 years. They have lots of bottled German beer. Was told it is the best German restaurant around. This place is definitely 4.5 stars. I will round up because I enjoyed it very much. I stayed after the closing because it was pouring. Marcos, one of the chefs brought me some black forest cake that they get on dry ice from Germany. It was awesome! Next time I will try the homemade streudel. I saw a video of them making it. Will be back.
